The government of Akwa Ibom State has on 1st March, 2020 paid the sum of fifty two thousand (#52000) naira only to the victims of the fierce fire disaster which took place at Iwuo Okpum community in Ibeno local government area.

It could be recalled that, on the 3rd day of January, 2020, the entire Iwuo Okpum community in Ibeno local government area where most of the houses are made of thatch and mud was completely razed by fire with nothing left.

The cause of the fire outbreak as at today could not be traced but since the incident took place, the government and some corporate institutions have visited the scene with relief materials to sympathize with the victims.

On the day the state house of assembly member representing the area, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh visited the scene, he called on the government to come to the rescue of the victims. Reminding them that, as the oil producing hub, it won’t be proper if the government abandons the fire victims to their fate even as fire has rendered them homeless with nothing to boast of.

To bring succor to the more than 200 victims, Newsline9ja gathered that,  the government of Akwa Ibom State invited the victims to the government House at Uyo and the sum of #52000 was given to each of the victims as a support from the government.
