Today, the Senate took a look at the brutality and rape of the girl child in Nigeria with particular reference to the cases of Miss Tina Ezekwe in Lagos, Miss Uwa Omozuwa at the University of Benin and the 12 year old girl in Jigawa state.

With the rising cases of rape across the country, what we need to do is to put in place stiffer penalties in Nigeria’s criminal and penal code that will serve as deterrent to perpetrators involved in the act.
