This afternoon, the President of the Senate, senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan inaugurated the Ad-Hoc Committee on Nigeria’s security challenges.
The reason for the committee according to the source is to immediately restructure, review and reorganize the current architecture.
The inauguration of the committee follows Senate’s resolution last week to set up a committee to look into the security situation in the country after an exhaustive deliberation in the senate.
The leadership of the Senate also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently declare a National Security Emergency to address the escalating challenges of insecurity faced by the country.
Members of the Ad-Hoc Committee include: Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe; Deputy Chief Whip, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi; Ali Ndume, Chairman, Committee on Army; Aliyu Wammako, Chairman, Committee on Defense; Bala Ibn Na’Allah, Chairman, Committee on Airforce;
and George Thompson Sekibo, Chairman, Committee on Navy.
Others are: Ibrahim Gobir, Chairman, National Security and Intelligence; Haliru Jika Dauda, Chairman, Committee on Police; Kashim Shettima (Member); Kabiru Gaya (Member); Gershom Bassey (Member); Stella Oduah (Member);Abba Moro (Member); Ibikunle Amosun (Member); Yusuf A. Yusuf (Member); and Suleiman Abdu Kwari (Member).
