AFRICA, RICH YET POOR

-By Camillus Etim

With the mineral resources deposited in basins and rocks of some countries in Africa, the continent has failed to wake up from her economic slumber. No matter how a nation is rich, if the leaders are corrupt, that nation will go begging. African culture is viewed to be communal but this does not reflect in her everydayness. Our leaders have failed us. They have milk the continent of her resources, exchanging diamond , gold and other resources for common ephemerals. They have used our resources as collateral to get loans from the well to do nations of the world without having any recourse to what they have done to generations yet unborn. Sorry my great, great, great grand children because you have a debt to pay which you did not plan.
When I look at the minerals deposited in Africa, I wipe. It ranges from gold, diamond, bauxite, copper, cobalt, Manganese, chrome, platinum, phosphates, uranium, petroleum, iron ore, fluorite and many other minor mineral in the sediments, mountains and oceans of Africa. Almost every country is blessed with something.
