A former two term Member of the National Assembly and the Political leader of Eket Senatorial District, Rt Hon.Chief Nduese Essien has stated that Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt Hon. Okpolupm Etteh is eminently Qualified to represent the people of Eket, ONNA, Esit Eket and Ibeno at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, Abuja.
The former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria made this known on Saturday, 5th March 2023 during an official consultation visit to him at his Ikot Ibiok resident, Eket.
Chief Essien lauded the positive contributions of Etteh in the rapid development of the Federal Constituency and by extension Akwa Ibom State and his constant support towards the maintenance of peace in the State.
“Etteh is not a new person to me ; He’s a fighter for any positive course and he is eminently qualified to represent us in Abuja.
In qualifications, he’s got it and has served in government at different level”, Chief Essien noted.
On the insinuation that Esit Eket and Ibeno sharing the same State Constituency, thus, same should be applied at the Federal Constituency level, the five Star former Parliamentarian kicked against such insinuation, stressing that all the four Local Government Areas are distinct and should be respected and given their right of place, adding that Ibeno people has the right to aspire and be voted for as it is their turn for the plump job.
The soft spoken political leader however expressed worry over events of the last few months, saying that the fears expressed by other Local Government Areas in the Constituency was of great concern to the people and stakeholders in the zone. He also appealed to the aspirant(Etteh) to use his office to Cement peace within the Constituency while also reassuring the people a greater working relationship.
Earlier on, the former Member Representing Esit Eket /Ibeno State Constituency and a serving Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt Hon. Okpolupm Etteh in an emotional laden voice thanked the former lawmaker for granting him the opportunity to consult him and outline his plans for the betterment of the Federal Constituency.
Etteh assured the revered Elder Stateman of effective representation if elected.
“I came to officially inform you of my aspiration to represent our Constituency at the National Assembly and i cannot aspire without consulting you who have acted more like a father to me and to members of the Constituency.
On the issue of Maintainance of peace, Etteh assured that he will do everything within his powers to sustain and maintain the existing peace in the Constituency.
He further assured of a comprehensive and massive training of citizens from the Constituency in areas of technical support to meet with the expected job boom in the Senatorial District.
“I am more interested in the development of our Constituency and members of constituency than boundaries demarcation.
“In my tenure in the House of Assembly, we had so much peace and i did all within my right to calm nerves and maintained peace.
My line of friends cut across the Local Government across the Federal Constituency and the State, this is deliberate as it is aimed at building a strong bond and working relationship in the Constituency, he added.
Also speaking, a former federal lawmaker, Rt Hon Owoidighe Ekpoatai solicited for support for the former House Leader of the State Assembly, assuring that Etteh if elected will not disappoint the people.
“I stand here to say that when God does a thing, he does it in such a way people don’t understand. It is also pertinent and right to support Ibeno as they did for others in time past. I’m also happy to be associated with Etteh as his yes is yes”, he said.
“When i aspired for this same position years ago, Etteh made all sort of personal sacrifices to ensure i got the ticket.
He went for me where i could not go.
Etteh is a honest person and worth sending to represent us. It is also worthy of note that In his years as a House of Assembly member, Esit Eket, Ibeno and Eket never had issue.
I appeal that you consider and stand with him for House of Reps as we won’t regret it,
In the same vien, a former federal lawmaker, Rt Hon. Barr. Bassey Dan Abia Jnr popular referred to as ‘Badanz’ appealed for support for the marketer, Public relations expert turned politician.
“Etteh is my friend and a family friend at that. He knows everything about me. He believes in friendship and he rewards friends.
Politically he’s my ally. He’s done enough in his Ministry and has turn a lot of things around. He deserves to be given a nod in the House of Representatives; and with people like Etteh, we are in safe hands”, the Chairman Governing council of the State college of education stated.
Others who spoke glowingly about the Special Duties boss includes, Obong Kingsley Etop, Mr Enyina Herkins and several other party faithfuls.
