- Comrade Unwana Assam
In order to see things for himself and as well put to end the argle-bargle surrounding the ongoing face-lift of Eket Sports Stadium, Hon. Frank Archibong, the executive chairman of Eket took a hike and inspected the ongoing Eket Stadium project today 24th January, 2020.
In a brief interview with the Press during the inspection, Hon. Archibong said, from the speed pace of work he has seen going on today at the Stadium and from what the experts handling the project had told him, the construction of the Sports Stadium will be completed in few months time. He also used the opportunity to thank governor Udom Emmanuel basically for choosing Eket among all the local government areas in the state to build Sports Stadium that when completed, will meet international standard.
“I’m so happy for what I have seen today. I thank his Excellency governor Udom Emmanuel most especially for not forgetting Eket. He choosed to give Eket Sports Stadium a face-lift despite the fact that, there are many local government stadiums in the state. I thank him also for the projects he has so far embarked on in Eket and I can assure you that, any project initiated in Eket by Udom Emmanuel would be completed and non will be left out.
“From the pace of work going on here and from my enquires from the engineers handling this project, in few months time, the stadium project would be completed and I have no doubt about that. Also, I strongly believe that, when this particular stadium is completed, it will some day play host to one of the National Teams in Nigeria and I’m also sure, with the development of this stadium, one of the teams in the state will be resident of Eket local government area. Also, it will add and also boost the economy of this area. So, it’s important that we support the government to deliver on her promises”. Hon. Frank Archibong said.
Mr. Archibong also used the opportunity to speak extensively on the calm security enjoyed in Eket. He said, if there’s area the present government has recorded a landmark achievement, that’s on security.
“As the executive chairman and the Chief Security Officer of this area, I make bold to say that, if there is anywhere we have recorded a landmark achievement, that’s on Security. Safety, calm and peace have returned to this local government in a very serious way and we will stop at nothing to sustain it. We are among the first to set up a community policing Outfit with a sophistication. We have given them Walkie-talkies, and other security apparatuses and I have discussed with the chairman of the organization to see how we can re-energize and make the Outfit stronger. The orientation program will commence next week. We are doing this so that people will not leave this community, we are doing this so that the investors will find the ease of doing business in Eket and we are doing this so that this community will return to where it used to be because, I remember in time past, we had the expatriates, white men jugging round Eket, and riding on their Bicycles round Eket. We want to encourage them to come out and that, nothing will happen to them”.
Hon. Frank Archibong reiterated that, Eket is peaceful and appealed on the people of Eket to join hands with the government because, security and environment are not only government business but also, everyone business.
