“Too many men work on parts of things. Doing a job to completion, satisfies me.”
- Richard Proenneke
The completion agenda of Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State cannot be completed or properly told without the name of the former Commissioner for Works and immediate past Chief of Staff to Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen.
Yes, the numerous road construction projects commissioned by His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel were as a result of genuine commitments by the former Commissioner whose passion for industrialization of the state and rapid infrastructural transformation were his priorities.
It is public knowledge that, Elder Ephraim Inyangeyen’s supportive roles to his brother, the governor, made the state what she is currently, commendations and good appraisals recorded by the administration have the signatures of the former Chief of Staff.
For instance, the Covid-19 success story in the state, money saved as a result of building a permanent structures in the state and not hiring isolation tents like other states in the country and the accolades earned by the government both within and outside the state, came largely due to extra energy, effort and proactive measures outlined by Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen.
Mr. Inyangeyen, during the pandemic, forsook comfort and spent good hours daily at Itu Mbang in Uruan LGA and supervised the building of the first of its kind ultra modern isolation centre in the country. He, personally paid masons, unskilled workmen, electricians, carpenters and other artisans at the close of work daily. When others were at their homes, this hardworking son of Akwa Ibom was at the project site in Itu Mbang, Uruan LGA, sometimes till early hours of the next day to ensure the project was completed and commissioned as scheduled, showcasing his commitment to the completion agenda and also helped Akwa Ibom people to be rescued from the world’s deadly pandemic.
The question is, who supervised the Itam flyover and other signature projects of Governor Udom Emmanuel? The truth and the whole truth is that, no local government area in the state is without an ongoing road construction project and the contract properly supervised by Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen when he was the Akwa Ibom State Works Commissioner.
His recent declaration of intention to vie for Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, known also as Eket Senatorial District in 2023 cannot make him an enemy of the state and cannot make him the enemy of his brother, the governor. Exercising one’s fundamental right of seeking public office through election is constitutional and should not be misconstrued and misinterpreted to mean disloyalty. He is good party man and is love by the majority of the people from his senatorial district.
It is, therefore, the general opinion of Akwa Ibom people that, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen deserves commendation and not condemnation for being one of the men who worked closely and selflessly to the actualization of Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s completion agenda.
