Former Lawnmaker Recalls Sen. Umoyo’s Active Roles in Struggle for Abrogation of Onshore/Offshore Oil Dichotomy

As preparations for the obsequies of late Senator Etang Umoyo gears up, top personalities and senior citizens within and outside Nigeria have began to recall the good deeds and selfless services of the late elder statesman toward national and state development.

Among the top personalities testifying about the contributions of the late leader is Senator Aloysius Etuk, who recalled the selfless roles of the late Senator Umoyo during the struggle for abrogation of offshore/onshore oil dichotomy.

Senator Etuk also recalled how at many occasions, the late statesman staked even his life, all in the struggle for the betterment and development of Akwa Ibom State in particular and Nigeria at large.

The former national lawmaker reflected on Late Umoyo’s active services today at the Central Planning Committee meeting for the burial of the late leader, held at La Imperial Hotel, Eket.

According to Senator Etuk, “the late Senator Etang Umoyo will be greatly missed in many ways by Akwa Ibomites in particular and Nigerians in general due to his contributions to both the state and national development”.

He said as a fearless leader and excellent orator, who also stood in the path of truth at all times, irrespective of who is involved, the late Senator has contributed in no small measures, to the emergence of many present political office holders in the state and beyond even without making noise about it.

While expressing his readiness in contributing his quota to give the departed statesman a befitting burial, suitable for a man of his caliber, Senator Etuk urged all hands to be on deck to durably lay the remains of the departed leader rest.

Responding, the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the burial and former Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barrister Bassey Essien appreciated the level of concern shown by Senator Etuk and other well-meaning citizens toward the plans to give the late distinguished senator a befitting burial and called on all to emulate same.

Meanwhile, a statement from the deceased family indicates that remains of the late elder statesman, Senator Etang Umoyo will be laid to rest on May 7, 2021 at his home town Etebi, Esit Eket LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
