The present Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Akwa Ibom State, Hon Frank Archibong does not need any introduction within the political space of Akwa Ibom State and beyond. He holds the ace in crisis management, peace initiative, administrative purity, bridge building through social engineering mastery, societal development, philanthropy and human development.
Despite his meteoric rise on the political turf of Akwa Ibom State, humility remains his beaconing aroma. As Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, few years back, he invented a leadership module that gave governance a human face. The lower class was always his bedfellows. He pursued what he believes will promote the wellbeing of the classless without minding at what personal cost, thereby stabilizing the swinging bridge of the social divide. His country home in Eket has always been a town hall, streaming with people who carry various weights of human burden on their shoulder, seeking for unbundlement. The wizardry with which he unbundle their burden, on daily basis, remains a puzzle to some mortals.
Hon Frank Archibong, in his dealings with fellow men, sticks to an unbending moral principle actuated by truth, equitableness and unbridled godliness because of his abiding faith in God.
His loyalty to his superiors and institutions such as the PDP which he had been a member since 1998, stands him out as a confidential book of trust. During the inauguration of Maintain Peace Movement, MPM, in Eket recently, he told the mammoth crowd that “there is nothing as 99% loyalty. You must give 100% loyalty in any cause you believe in”. The statement was a true reflection of his faultless prostration to the spirit of loyalty.
Born on 19th August, 1975, to the family of Late Archibong Udoh of Ikot Ibiok Village in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSCL) at Community Primary School, Rumuoamasi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and proceeded to Methodist Boys High School, Oron, Akwa Ibom State where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE).
Archibong attended the Prestigious University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and graduated with a B.Sc. Degree in Marketing. Propelled by his insatiable quest for knowledge, he followed up with a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the same University.
Archibong, before delving fully into politics, had a brief experience working in the Oil and Gas sector. He worked at Freco Nigeria Limited as Site Manager and at Saibos Nigeria Ltd, an affiliate of Saipem Nigeria Ltd as Assistant Foreman. While at Saibos Nigeria Ltd, he was involved in several projects in Mobil and Total Field, including the Installation and Hook-up of the Yoho and Amana Kpono Platforms.
He thereafter ventured into politics fully where he served as the National Vice Chairman of Continuity Advancement Group (CAG), and also the National Organizing Secretary of Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA); both socio-political groups that were pivotal to the successes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 elections in the State.
His positive and impactful contributions to the emergence of political administrations in the State took him to the public office domain to serve his people, where he was saddled with the responsibility to oversee sectors in the third-tier of government. From being the Supervisor for Works in Eket Local Government Transition Committee to Supervisor for Youths and Sports, he also served as the Secretary, Transition Committee and later became the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Eket Local Government Area. At a time, Frank Archibong also served as a Commissioner in the Law Reforms Commission, Akwa Ibom State.
Having subjected himself to vast experiences in the third-tier of government, and his unquenchable desire to bring development to his people, Archibong contested and won the local government election as Chairman, Eket Local Government Council, Akwa Ibom State, and was duly elected by the 31 Local Government Chairmen as the Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Akwa Ibom State. His creditable performance as the ALGON Chairman, Akwa Ibom State in the congregation of the 36 State Chairmen of ALGON, led to his emergence as the National Treasurer of ALGON.
Archibong was Coordinator, Eket Local Government Mobilization and Advisory Committee; and has served severally as Chairman, Eket Local Government Area Congress Coordinating Committee; and as Chairman, Eket Local Government Area Election Coordinating Committee. He is currently the Eket Chapter Coordinator of Maintain Peace Movement, MPM, a PDP grassroot mobilization machinery in Akwa Ibom State.
Being a great mobilizer, and a Member of the State Steering Committee of the Divine Mandate Organization, Frank Archibong was drafted to serve in the Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee of the Organization, in addition to his assigned role of Coordinating the Eket Chapter of the Organization. His dedication and commitment to service in these offices contributed in no small measure to the emergence of His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmauel for a second term in office.
As Chairman of ALGON, AKS Branch, he has attended several Seminars, Workshops and Trainings, both at home and abroad. Notably, Archibong participated in the Anti-Corruption, Ethic, and Integrity Training organized by Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, held in Abuja, Nigeria. He also participated in the Study Tour of the Kingdom of Morocco, organized by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG) and ALGON, Nigeria, held at Morocco. In addition, he attended an International Workshop on Best Practices in Leadership and Local Administration, held in White Marsh, Baltimore, USA.
He is happily married to a beautiful, caring and very resourceful wife, Mrs. Bright Archibong and the marriage is blessed with three children.
As 2023 general elections beckons, Hon Frank Archibong is the compass of the Ekid people, a political stabilizer whose leadership position in Eket commands trust. The Completion Agenda of His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State occupies a chunk of his time as a Commissioner in a Ministry that overseas the affairs of the Third Tier of Government and Chieftaincy matters. Will society reciprocate his commitment to human development? The answer is in the affirmative because whatever we put into human creation is what we take from it.
