Gov. Udom’s SA Supports Female Entrepreneur With N100k To Boost Her Palm Wine Business

The Special Assistant to governor Udom Emmanuel on Public Affairs, Mr. Raphael Edem has supported a young female entrepreneur identified as Inemesit Ukim with the sum of 100k to boost her palm wine business, reports.

This was disclosed when Raphael made a Facebook post to celebrate International Women’s Day, acknowledging the fact that, there are many budding female entrepreneurs in Akwa Ibom State who dared to go into traditional male dominated business ventures. He therefore Promised to assist many business respondents as much as God gives him the grace.

Who send me?

“That’s the question I felt like asking myself when I realized that my attempt to assist one female entrepreneur to move a step further in her business had become a cut-throat contest, with intense lobbying, a deluge of unsolicited inbox messages and allegations of hacking and all that stuff. My intention had been to get budding female entrepreneurs, especially those ones who dared to play in the traditional male-dominated business ventures, to justify the 100k that was on offer and how it would help advance their businesses. It was my own way of encouraging females in business who #ChooseToChallenge stereotypes and were doing their best to excel in their areas of endeavor. I saw it as an opportunity to make this year’s #IWD worth the while, even if for one person.

As it is now, I am left with no choice than to abandon the criteria I had set for choosing a winner. I had been under the impression that the most compelling story would attract likes from people and that person would win. I never reckoned with the hyper-tagging and ‘like’ campaign embarked upon by a lot of the respondents, which has completely defeated the essence of setting the above criteria in the first place.
I have gone through all the posts and I have decided to exercise my prerogative to select a winner, based on my own feeling about that respondent’s line of business and circumstances. Some people obviously need more money that was available, while others couldn’t quite convincingly situate their needs within the context of the available funds.

The good news is that there are a lot of young women who are doing things with their hands and that is heartwarming to note. I pray that God will bless the work of their hands and expand their coast.

I have decided to support a few other respondents with at least one of the things they need. I have already reached out to those I can. I would do more if I could, but I’m positive that there will be other times.

As for the 100k, I have been intrigued at the palm wine business of Inemesit Ukim. Beyond the fact that it’s not everyday you find young women in that line of business, I am also sure that the money will help her expand, especially now that the demand for palm wine far exceeds the supply”.

Congratulations to her. Happy International Women’s Day 2021! #ChooseToChallenge #IWD2021
