GOVERNORSHIP SEAT IS NOT THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHT OF ITU AND IBIONO IBOM

In view of the plenty dissensions among the Akwa Ibom populace, stirred by those agitating for an Itu/Ibiono-Ibom Governor come 2023, it is imperative to lay the following facts bare.

There has never been an instance where Governors are selected based on Federal Constituency. Governorship elections in Akwa Ibom State from 1999 till date have ALWAYS been rotated/zoned based on Senatorial Districts, and NOT on Federal Constituencies.

An example of this was the case in 1999 when the position was zoned to Uyo Senatorial District which saw the emergence of Obong Victor Attah from 1999-2007. Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District took their turn with the emergence of Chief Godswill Akpabio from 2007-2015; and Eket Senatorial District with His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel on the saddle from 2015 to end on May 29, 2023. It is therefore weak argument for a group of persons to think they are more qualified than others by reason of Federal Constituency.

Even stakeholders across political parties in the State have affirmed that at no time in the history of our State has the Governorship seat been ever zoned based on Federal Constituency. They also noted strongly that all political parties reserve the exclusive right to abide by its zoning principles which have been her trademark since 1999 by rotating the Governorship seat among the three (3) Senatorial Districts”.

As such, anyone or group going with the idea that the Governorship seat is the exclusive right of Itu and Ibiono are the real enemies of Uyo Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State.
