…Sam Ekpenyong is a bridge builder – Ward Chairman
In what could be described as the mother of all consultations, a leading aspirant for Eket Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Samuel Ekpenyong, yesterday, March 17, 2022, has promised to bring lasting peace among the four local government areas of Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno and Onna.
Ekpenyong made the promise during a consultation visit to Eket Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Statutory delegates, at the party office in Eket.
He said, “My No. 1 agenda is to bring lasting peace to Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno and Onna. Once we have peace in this community, there will be development.
“We have opportunity to bring lasting peace to our area and I am the enabler of that peace,” he reiterated.
He further stated that outside peace, his other area of priority is human enhancement, saying when people are properly empowered, there will be no problem in the community.
He mentioned that he has supported, coordinated and sponsored other people’s political aspirations in the past, trained youth on BOSIET training, and facilitated jobs placement for many, appealing for those gestures to be reciprocated now that he also need support from his people. He promised to be a voice of the four local government areas at the National Assembly.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ibeno local government area, High Chief William Mkpah, said that there is no division between Ekid people and Ibeno, that from time immemorial, people from both communities are one, reiterated that the status quo be maintained.
He added that Eket being the mother local government area, has served at the Federal House of Representatives, likewise Esit Eket and Onna, appealing that Ibeno LGA, being the last born in the family of four, should be given the same opportunity. He assured that no Ibeno man will sell out Ekid as insinuated in some quarters.
One of the Ward Chairmen in Ibeno LGA, Mr. Samuel Akpakip, said Ekpenyong has integrity, and what it takes to represent Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno and Onna local government area respectively.
“Samuel Ekpenyong is a bridge builder and has been sponsoring and supporting many people politically. He controls the major faction of PDP in Ibeno LGA.” He therefore charged the delegates to be truthful by supporting him to win the party primary.
The Chairman of Ward Chairmen in Eket, Mr. Samuel Okon said, Sam Ekpenyong has always been a kingmaker and it is right for a kingmaker to also become a king. He expressed regret that Eket Federal Constituency has been poorly represented, charging Ekpenyong to marshal out his plans to delegates to earn their trust and votes.
The Chapter Chairman of PDP in Eket, ObongIwaad Emmanuel Mbong, in his remarks, said Sam Ekpenyong is a good man and has been in the struggle for Eket Federal Constituency and contributed significantly to the betterment of the area.
“A lot of them know about your past, a lot of them know your present and they are looking forward to your future,” said Mbong.
He added that as a party, their door is widely open to all aspirants, and at the appropriate time, they will decide and whoever they support will win.
Earlier, the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Eunice Thomas, said her husband, Hon. Ekpenyong has been very supportive to genuine causes in the Federal Constituency and based on his antecedents, should be supported to consolidate on his achievements.
