In his remarks, the Chairman of the Federated Chapel, Comrade Nsibiet John who described the Federated Chapel as the flagship of media practice in Akwa Ibom State said it was pertinent for a symbiotic relationship to exist between the chapel and the Ministry.
He recommended that this relationship could be oiled through support on training and retraining of members for effective service delivery in the journalism practice.
John who informed the Ministry of the Chapel’s retreat scheduled for April 27, 2022 called on the leadership of the Ministry to go beyond supporting the retreat to extending to the Chapel international training opportunities available for Ministry’s staff.
In his response, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong thanked members of the Federated Chapel for the visit and expressed the Ministry’s determination to partner with the Chapel in their upcoming retreat and future training opportunities.
The Commissioner who charged the journalists on responsible and patriotic press said it is the desire of the Ministry that while having an active media that will draw government attention, alternatives must be offered.
He added ” Our rule of engagement has nothing to do with confrontation. We operate on corporate friendliness. It is consultation and consolidation. On our part, we desire to see a cooperative, responsible and patriotic press.
“When we are criticising, we should not criticise to destroy the government but build our society by offering alternatives. Government can’t be the only focus of the media. Individual rights are there. It is time to define our reason for criticism, that’s how society can grow”.
