AN OPEN SOS LETTER TO GOV. UDOM EMMANUEL.*
AKISIEC CHAIRMAN MOVES TO MAKE OWN RELATIVE EKET COUNCIL CHAIRMAN: A PASSIONATE APPEAL TO GOV. UDOM EMMANUEL TO ALLOW INTERNAL DEMOCRACY TO PREVAIL.
4th August 2020
Your Excellency, there is a highly classified but disturbing information that Pastor Aniediabasi Ikoiwak, the chairman of AKISIEC, keying into the prevailing local council political issues in Eket, apparently by proxy, is about to impress upon you to make his blood relative from same village, the Executive Chairman of Eket LGA. This is not the contention sir.
Uncorroborated Information has it that the AKISIEC chairman has put up a body of a few political stakeholders in Eket led by Chief Nduese Essien, the political leader and two other stakeholders, who have allegedly made, or are about to make representations to your Excellency that one Engr. Thompson from Efoi village in Eket LGA, who is a blood relative of the said AKISIEC chairman, be adopted by Your Excellency as the PDP chairmanship candidate for Eket LGA.
It is alleged that Engr. Thompson as a mathematician had helped to balance the 2019 election result sheets without loophole, which was used at the Election Petition Tribunal, hence the decision to compensate him as the council chairman, which is alleged, your Excellency has keyed into. Information has it that Your Excellency is making this decision within this week.
With utmost respect Your Excellency, we feel that taking such a sensitive political decision is inimical to internal democratic tenets which you stand for.
The problem that raised dust in Eket chairmanship race was mainly the issue of mbiam, which you have dutifully handled, but not a question of consensus candidacy.
Your Excellency, may we remind you, most respectively, that on Sunday 26th July 2020, the Eket political stakeholders met and took a decision that there is no question of a consensus candidate in Eket; that all the contenders must go to the field.
If the information about a move to adopt Engr Thompson is correct, Your Excellency, it would amount to political summersault, for a few stakeholders to turn away from the unanimous agreement reached at the said stakeholders meeting to urge upon you to adopt someone as the consensus candidate.
We therefore, relying on Your Excellency’s towering integrity and finesse of political character, appeal that internal democracy should prevail.
Whilst Engr. Thompson has the constitutional right to stand for an election, but adopting him as a candidate by the governor, having been pushed by the chairman of the electoral umpire, appears to be deficient of integrity that Your Excellency is known for. And shall deprive other contenders their franchise rights, more so as the political stakeholders have not agreed on a consensus candidate.
Flowing from the foregoing, we humbly appeal to Your Excellency, to please ensure that internal democracy prevails in Eket. Let all the aspirants, who are all your beloved children stand for the primary election. In this way, equity and justice would not only be have been done, but seen to have been done.
Thank you your Excellency for always having a listening ear to your subjects as a father of all.
