…We need somebody that’s an enabler of peace in the National Assembly – Ekpeyong
As days go by, the campaign train of Hon. Samuel Ekpeyong Thomas (SET) is gathering momentum without looking back.
This time, SET received full nods from Esit Eket Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party when he intimated the chapter exco and statutory delegates of his ambition to represent Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno and Onna in the house of representatives, 13th March, 2022 at the residence of the Esit Eket chapter chairman, Eket, Akwa Ibom State.
Making his intention known, Samuel Ekpeyong acknowledged the fact that, the federal constituency has not completely been at peace due to the Ekid-Ibeno land dispute, assuring that if he’s elected, he will surely bring lasting peace in the area as well as resolve the issue.
In his words “even when I was working at ExxonMobil, there has never been a time anything concerning Ekid is brought to me or discussed that I will be behind without giving full support and attention. This is because I know that Ekid as a whole is my home. I have to be sincere with you today. I can’t pretend as if everything is fine. Truth is that we have challenges as a federal constituency.
“Presently, there’s a serious land dispute between Ibeno and Ekid and we can’t deny that fact. Anybody with conscience will want to come and sit with you and ask how the problem can be solved. Whoever comes to consult you and is not bold enough to talk about the crisis between Ekid and Ibeno, it means that the person is not sincere and not also willing to find a way to solve it, it means that he’s also a partaker of the problem”.
The former Mobil employee reiterated that he was born to see his father having a good relationship with Ekid people as brothers and as his son, he can’t do otherwise.
“To set the record straight, we need someone that is peace enabler. Someone that can stand out to Ibeno and say, we want to make peace, there must be peace. If you support me to win this contest, I will ensure, we work to promote peace and unity between Ekid and Ibeno”, the Board Member assured.
Responding, the chapter chairman of Esit Eket, Hon. Eddy Etangkanga commended Sam Ekpeyong for coming out to contest for the federal house as well as assuring him of a level playing ground and support.
“As the Chapter Chairman of the Peoples Democracy Party, Esit Eket Chapter and the Chairman of Chapter Chairmen forum, Aks, if the ticket is in my position to issue out, with the support of my teaming delegates from Esit Eket, I would have asked you to go and sleep. But since it’s the entire party’s decision, at the appropriate time, when we meet as a party, we will do the needful”.
