NO PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY DUE TO COVID-19

There will not be any public event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of our country’s independence on the 1st of October, 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Public Celebrations will inevitably entail large gatherings of people which will make compliance with the AKSG/NCDC/WHO Guidelines and Protocols difficult.

However, the day which has already been declared a National Public Holiday, should be used by all citizens and residents to reflect on the struggles that birthed our independence and develop greater capacity for tolerance in our resolve to build a stronger and more united nation.

Signed:

Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem
Secretary to State Government & Chairman of COVID-19 Management Committee
