The attention of the Newsline9ja.com Reporter was drawn to an ugly incident this morning at Eket Local Government Secretariat where under age boys and girls seeking for admission into tertiary institutions are being subjected to the unnecessary stress of National ID Card Registration before a student is qualified to write Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB).
It could be recalled that, some time last year 2019, The National University Commission (NUC) announced to the public the new rule which states that, before any citizen of Nigeria writes Jamb which is a prerequisite for one to gain admission into higher institution, he/she must acquire the National Identity Card (I’D Card).
And behold, in the quest of acquiring the NUC’s requirement, the mammoth crowd of under age have filled up the council’s secretariat. As seen in the pictures, this National Identity Card brouhaha might lead to stampede in Eket if care is not taken as such, the presence of security agencies in Eket are immediately needed at the scene so as to avoid unnecessary happening.
But then, one may ask: why this amount of unecesarry pressure on the under age for National Identity Card? Would this children maintain the similar picture appearances when they grow older? And lastly, what kind of country are we?
