….As PDP spokesman doles out new scholarship grants to Ibiono Ibom students in tertiary institutions.
The President and Founder of The Ini Ememobong Foundation and Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom State Comrade Ini Ememobong has maintained that it is our collective contributions and not complaints that will birth the transformations we desire to see in critical sectors of our state’s economy.
Ememobong who stated this at his Emmanuel’s Court residence on Sunday while addressing the beneficiaries of the 2019/2020 Mkpisong Ememobong Scholarship Grants: a scholarship scheme named after his father and floated through IWADU (The Ibiono Ibom Welfare and Development Union) noted that the transformation in many societies of reference usually begin at the point where citizens irrespective of social affiliations and economic standing resolve to do something different by way of bringing the change they desire, other than sit idly and complain.
“Everything that the Ini Ememobong foundation has done is our way of contributing to creating the reality we collectively dream of as Akwa Ibom people. When we pay fees by way of scholarship or direct settlement of tuition to students, we are amplifying the message that education is the springboard that catapult us to a beautiful future as a people. When we get involved in interventions in the health sector, we are only trying to live the message that a healthy population is critical to achieving our collective dreams. Everything we do is our way of stepping out of the complaints web and at the Ini Ememobong foundation, we believe that if more people come together and step away from complaints and do something no matter how little, we can create the State we want.” Ememobong stressed.
The PDP spokesman urged youths in the State to utilize any available opportunity to prepare themselves for the brighter Akwa Ibom that is already here, adding that the same way the Ibom Air Project came to fruition, the Ibom Deep Seaport Project will soon be a reality.
He stressed the need Akwa Ibom youths to explore every option of preparation in order to be able to benefit from the limitless opportunity the project will throw up, insisting that in the next five years, Akwa Ibom should be boasting of having pilots who will be flying the Ibom Air and captains and other critical who will be managing and steering the affairs of the seaport.
While congratulating the successful beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme, Comr Ini Ememobong advised them to see the scholarship as a motivation to study harder so as to graduate and thereafter devote their professional knowledge to helping solve present and emerging societal challenges.
Thanking God for the grace He has given to her family to do what they do, the wife of the Publicity Secretary, Bar (Mrs) Chinoyerem Ini Ememobong said that their main aim and objective is to leave the society better than they met it. She said her family does not give because they have much, but because it is necessary to do so. She urged the students never to be distracted and should focus on their studies.
Mkpisong Ememobong Essien, the father to the Publicity Secretary in his remarks commended his son for the grant and other initiatives the foundation was driving in a bid to birth the desired changes in many sectors of the society.
Briefing the participants of the occasion, the Chairperson of the Education Subcommittee of the foundation, Mrs Uyai Edidiong Francis said that a total of 240 students applied for the grant; 124 students were cleared from their different schools with the required CGPA; 91 students wrote the aptitude test while a total 39 students emerged successful.
Goodwill messages were received from many people including Prince Godwin Okon, the President of IWADU, Uyo Branch; Mr John Nta The CEO of Treasure Island, Hon Bassey Bassey, the Chairman of Councilors Forum, Akwa Ibom; Hon Inyene Udeme and Associate Prof. Uwem Akpan.
