…. Task anti-corruption agencies to look into management of COVID-19 funds

Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Mr. Onofiok Luke has charged anti corruption agencies in the country to critically look into the management of petroleum products subsidy that has continued to pose a great challenge to the nation’s economy and revenue.

Luke who was delivering a goodwill message at the 6th African Union (AU) Day of Anti-Corruption held in Abuja on Thursday also said that there was need for the anti corruption agencies to look deeply into the management of COVID-19 funds and palliatives in order to ensure direct benefit to the people.

Speaking further on the theme of the conference; Strategies and Mechanisms for the Transparent Management of COVID-19 Funds, Luke called for cooperation of all stakeholders in the implementation of the Proceed of Crime( Recovery and Management) Act 2022 which will make for transparent management of recovered loots and forfeited property.

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari declared the event opened.

Stakeholders who attended the event were the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Professor Bolaji Owasanoye SAN, Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa represented by the Secretary of Commission, Mr George Ekpungu, Country Director United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime, Dr. Oliver Stolpe, Representative of Chairman Code of Conduct Bureau, Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Anti Corruption Hon. Daschung Bagos.

Also in attendance were Representative from Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha represented by Permanent Secretary and Members of Diplomatic Corp.
