Community Youths In Akwa Ibom Protest For Niglegence By The Akwa Ibom State Government. >>>

The youths of Oro Nation, one of the outstanding tribes in Akwa Ibom State earlier today protested against Akwa Ibom State government for not including their communities as one of the core Oil Producing areas in the State.

Oro nation comprises of five (5) local government areas namely; Mbo, Udung Uko, Okobo, Oron, Urue Ofong Oruku and the five areas have recorded Oil Well in the past few years.

Sometime in February 2020, the four catchment areas in Eket federal constituency, together with Akwa Ibom State government had a meeting with the leadership of Exoonmobil, the giant Oil Producing firm in the State and it was surprising that, nobody, not even a single elder from Oro Nation attended the meeting. So, the youths’ protest against the government today 24th February 2020 may not be unconnected to that. Because immediately after the meeting which took place at the company’s industrial area at QIT, Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State, some youths from Oro Nation was read on social media expressing their displeasure over the continual marginalization by the Exoonmobil and Akwa Ibom State government against them.

As at the time of making this report, no elder from the area has commented on the youths’ protest yet as even the senator representing the area who also happens to come from the area, senator Akon Eyakenyi is busy with her 60th birthday celebration at her constituency office.
