Only the blind did not see the glory, honour and royalty Akwa Ibom State paraded on Saturday, February 15, 2020.
Particularly, the ancient city of Onna became the meeting point of legends across culture, tribe, language, strata and niche.
Call it a gathering of dons, stars, gladiators and eagles and you wont be wrong.
It was an history that would never, ever be erased from the blue books of the state.
To imagine that the entire Nigeria would be assembled in such magnitude as it were in Akwa Ibom for what one would say “just a burial” was unthinkable, moreso, a minute (if not the minutest) and interior part of the state, still remains a maze to many.
Whatever charm our Governor used in moving down the two former Presidents of Nigeria, the Vice President, the immediate past and present Senate Presidents, the immediate past and present Central Bank Governors and 15 past and present state Governors to Akwa Ibom in one day; whatever charm it was, I need just one touch of it please!
We saw with our two eyes former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and GoodLuck Jonathan (and wife), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, present Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Governor Godwin Emefiele of CBN, Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi; Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, our own Senators Bassey Albert, Chris Ekpenyong, Ita Enang, John Udoedehe, Effiong Bob and Akon Eyakenyi; Minister for Youth Development, Boni Haruna; Wife of the Niger Delta Minister, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; former Cross River State Governors, Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke, and the present Prof. Ben Ayade and Wife; Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu; Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa; Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki; former Governor of Enugu state, Sulivan Chime and the present Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello; Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam; former Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Victor Attah; Prince and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Uche Secondus; Obong Umana Okon Umana, Chief Don Etiebet, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga and too many names we hear of on Radio Nigeria.
It was an awesome experience which made many stare and fold their arms in bewilderment.
Was this man (Udom Emmanuel) this powerful to have attracted such heavy-duty personalities? Many wondered. Or was it connection?
But whether or not there was a charm or connection, something stands unhidden and that is the power of a man’s character.
It has often been said that a man’s knowledge and connection may take him heights but it is his character that sustains his height.
It may sound strange to state that those dignitaries didn’t come for the Late Teacher Nkanang whom they probably never knew but certainly, they came for one man – a friend, an associate, a colleague and team member whose impeccable pedigree and character they couldn’t ignore.
A man called Udom Emmanuel whose leadership, conduct, carriage and character they couldn’t wave aside; a man who has just one true colour of himself and is not a backstabber or betrayer.
Here we blackmail, pull down, fight and criticize without caring if we’re going to step on toes or strain relationships. We sell our consciences and integrities for the love of money and close our future doors to success but there’ll come a day when our deeds will be paid us back in the same coin and at an increased measure we paid others.
That day, like Friday, will tell how well we’ve acted on this stage called life.
Meanwhile, my regard for my Governor has hit the heavens.
Dear Akwa Ibomites, the real Eagle is the man who like Christ, the wise men travelled miles to see. The real Eagle is my State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
