Following the recent resignation of the immediate past Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Obolo due to the coincidence of coming from the same senatorial district with the sitting governor, in order for fairness and equity to play out, the new Speaker, Hon. Abraham Ingobere was elected in the house and immediately sworn.
To maintain the continual and rubost relationship between the executive and the legislative in the state, the new elected speaker led members of the state house of assembly on a courtesy and solidarity visit to governor Douye Diri.
“Today, I received the new leadership of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly led by the Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere.
His emergence as the new Speaker became inevitable following my swearing in as Governor last Friday.
The former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Obolo hails from the same senatorial zone as me. He was matured and patriotic enough to have resigned to allow for equitable distribution of political power among the three senatorial zones.
I thank members of the House for their unanimous decision and for allowing internal democracy to prevail as it should be”.
