–Overall best graduating to be sent abroad for Masters

As a way of promoting academic excellence and reawakening the scholarliness in every students, the University of Uyo Alumni Association is making plans to secure scholarship for best graduating students of The University of Uyo.

The National President of the Association; and the Member representing Etinan Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. (Bar) Onofiok Luke stated this in Uyo on Sunday during the thanksgiving service of the Forum.

According to Luke, plans are in top gear to readmit the best graduating students in each faculty in the university. He also said that the overall best graduating students of the school will be sent to an internationally recognized University for a Masters Degree Programme.

The institution has 12 faculties and the school of continuing Education. This is to say that the Alumni Association is making plans to grant scholarship to 14 students (based on CGPA) and a random pick of more students based on other undisclosed criteria.

The Law Maker said that the plan was reached by the Executive Members of the Association during their NEC meeting in Uyo; and that it is a way of making students to sit up and take their studies seriously. He said it is high time the Association did something better than the usual laptops and money given to these students after their graduation.

He also said that the scholarship is a way of celebrating and promoting academic excellence in the institution.

He revealed that there are plans to partner with global institutions to bring positive changes and development to the school. According to him, this will help in building both the staff and the students of the university.

The Thanksgiving Service which took place at Victory Chapel, Town Campus, University of Uyo, was attended by the Immediate Past National President of the Association, Prof. Gabriel Umoh; all the elected officers of the Association and members from different part of the country.
