‘We Have Not Been Paid For More Than Four Months.’ -Eket Orphanage Staff Cries Out

A female staff working in the popular Orphanage at Four Town, Eket, Akwa Ibom State, has cried out for non payment of their meagre salary and poor treatment by the management of the home, Newsline9ja.com reports.

The woman who spoke with Newsline9ja reporter on the condition of anonymity for the fear of being sacked, said that for more than four months, they have not been paid adding that she does not know why the management has decided to treat them the way they do knowing that, they also have their families to cater for.

The staff also complained about the food stuff people normally donate there. She said: ‘even the food items people normally donate, immediately those things are donated to the children, the management will cease them all thus, starving the children. Even the staff are are not allowed to eat there because the management takes the food items out of the orphanage’ though she does not know where they used to take it to.

She decried of the quality of food given to the children in the home. ‘Sometimes, the quality of food given to the children is always very poor’. She exclaimed, adding that, even if food expires, the management will still ask them to cook it for the children and whenever they complained about the quality of food, the manager who is representing ‘Mma’ will threaten to sack or suspend them.

The staff also said that it has been more than three years since Mrs. Tom Bush, who is the sole Administrator of the home, visited the orphanage. ‘Mr. Chris, the manager of the home only supplies Mma with information’ she cried out, stating that the manager uses his position to manipulate everything in the home.

The staff therefore prayed that God should touch the management’s heart so that they can at least repair the roof as everywhere in the home is leaking.

The Four Town Babies Home is solely managed by Mrs. Tom Bush, the private contractor who is alleged to also manage the Pegasus Schools, Eket and other big contracts in ExxonMobil.
