The people of Zone B in Esit Eket local government area, through the stakeholders have elected the new political leader today 13th January, 2022.

Engr. Emmanuel Sunday Bassey, from ward 5, Idung Akpentuen, Uquo, who was unavoidably absent at the time of the nomination and adoption emerged as the political leader of Zone B with the popular vote. He took over from Dr. Umoh.

In the meeting carefully presided by Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, at his country home, Uquo, Esit Eket LGA, the MP reminded stakeholders of the need to have a zonal leader, noting that, with a zonal leader, they can achieve whatever they set up to achieve especially as 2023 is fast approaching.

Speaking about the party in Esit Eket, Akpanusoh noted that, Elder Benjamin Udobia remains the political leader of Esit Eket saying “nobody can contest for the political leadership of Esit Eket. Elder Benjamin remains our political leader and his leadership is not in dispute”.

In their separate opinions, Hon. Etim Akansi, Hon. Samuel Iyanam, Hon. Isaiah Abia, Dr. O. D. Umoh, Hon. Albert Obionwa spoke glowingly about and commended the 2 term member of Parliament, who is the highest political office holder in the zone, and Esit Eket by extension for deeming it necessary to convene and preside over the meeting, acknowledging the fact that, with the zonal leader, there will be a sense of belonging, togetherness, direction, and unity in the zone.

Declaring open the floor for nomination, Hon. Usoro bared his mind to the elders saying, he is not interested in the political leadership as such, he should not be nominated, averring that as someone who is already occupying a political office, it won’t be fair for him to be the political leader because, he might aspire for something tomorrow and if that happens, he might compromise.

The three persons nominated for the position were;

  • Engr. Emmanuel Sunday Bassey
  • Dr. O. D. Udoh
  • Hon. Enobong Asubop

During nominations, Iwaad, Prefered John recuperated the fact that a political leadership needs someone with the capacity both physically, mentally, spiritually, politically, and above all, financially as such, he nominated Engr. Emmanuel Bassey and was seconded by Dr. O. D. Umoh who earlier declined his nomination on the ground that, he is already old and his age won’t allow him run around and act accordingly, noting it won’t be fair and it will be selfish of him if he accepts the nomination.

In the same vein, Hon. Augustus Nkuseying spoke about capacity, pedigree, and antecedent as such, he nominated Hon. Enobong Asubop and based on the said capacity and antecedent, Pastor Isaiah seconded the motion.

Going by voting, Dr. Umoh who earlier declined the nomination, quoted age as the major factor. Hon. Asubop said the nomination took him unawares and that he did not do a campaign to prepare his supporters as such, he won’t accept the nomination while pleading to be given time to go and campaign for at least two weeks or more before he comes back. As his request was not accepted as the stakeholders were poised to elect their leader in the meeting, Engr. Bassey emerged unopposed and was unanimously adopted.

Hon. Iyanam, Hon. Etim Akansi, Pastor Godwin Idinyang in their nomination called on Usoro Akpanusoh to take over the political leader since he is the highest political office holder in the zone quoting capacity and antecedent as a prerequisite for nominating.

Usoro, who said he can only support whoever emerges as the political leader of Zone B whenever needs arise since it is his zone and that, he is convening and presides over the meeting without bias intents to ensure, they walk together in the zone respectfully declined the nomination.

The following persons were elected into the leadership team of Zone B:
